Today I taught a seminar on Facebook and how to use it for your business. The group of business owners ranged from large corporations to small owner operated sole proprietors. The overall reaction to the speech was very positive and well received, I look forward to repeating it again this Wednesday to another group in Cornelius.
We talked in depth on “Who Are You” which entailed understanding who you are representing when posting, liking, sharing and tagging on your personal or business page. Knowing who you are should dictate the message you send for example; if you are posing an article on cats, make sure you are not posting it on the dog kennel page, and many other examples of sending the right message.
Sending the right message entails many facets on Facebook and many people do not understand that “we” (the general public on Facebook) do not want you soliciting us unless we approve it, so stop trying to sell products and services from your personal page. When business minded ”we” (the general public on Facebook) do not care to read or see pictures of your children. Knowing who you are, while using Facebook is important so not to offend people, especially if you intend to use Facebook to promote your business.
